Staring at the same walls throughout lockdown convinced many of us that it’s time to move to a new house. It’s no surprise that city dwellers have been searching for new build homes in countryside locations as they seek fresh air, beautiful views and calming coastal pathways. Which area of the UK offers all of this and more? You guessed it. Cornwall.

Research conducted by online mortgage broker Trussle, found that Cornwall was the most popular place for house hunters to relocate to with Devon coming in second. One family who has made the move to Devonshire Homes’ St. Austell site, Gwallon Keas, is the Kaczyńscy family. Alex, 33, along with her husband Bart, 38 and their six-year-old son and four-year-old daughter made the big decision to move nearly six hours away from their existing home for a new life in Cornwall. Now enjoying their three bedroom home, Alex reflects on their buying journey with Devonshire Homes.

“We moved to the UK a couple of years ago and settled in Nottinghamshire but have never committed to buying a property. Bart secured a new job in Truro, so we visited Cornwall for the very first time in October 2020 to look at potential homes. Over the course of the week, we visited a number of towns and had a look around different new build developments, but nothing seemed quite right. It all changed once we parked next to the Marketing Suite at Gwallon Keas. We knew, THIS WAS IT! The location was perfect, and the properties looked beautiful with plenty of character.

“Having researched Devonshire Homes, we knew they were an established housebuilder who had been building in the South West for a number of years. Knowing that they were a reputable housebuilder put our minds at ease and we knew that we just had to go for it. We had only intended to have a look around that week, but we ended up arranging all the formalities to reserve our house on the way back to Nottingham!”

On that day in October, Alex and her family reserved the popular three bedroom Duporth house style.

“We fell in love with our house because it’s in one of the best positions” said Alex. “We are on top of a hill which offers amazing views from our kitchen and bedroom. Rolling hills and beautiful sunsets can all be enjoyed from our windows with no other homes or buildings in front of us obscuring this stunning scenery. The layout of the Duporth house style is very unusual but I love how it just works for us. The open staircase and high ceiling bring light into the home and make it feel so spacious. Even though this is a split-level home, all the rooms flow nicely and the whole space is very cosy and welcoming.”

Alex comments that there is plenty to like about their new home and Gwallon Keas as a neighbourhood.

“I love our living space” smiles Alex. “It feels so open and airy, perfect to relax in after a long day. The whole house feels like home. It isn’t the biggest house on the development but that doesn’t matter as it has been thoughtfully designed and is very unusual which allows it to stand out from the crowd. The site itself is really attractive too. Even though it is a new build estate, we like the fact that it doesn’t look like any of the others we visited. Usually, new build sites lack character with houses and roads cobbled together but at Gwallon Keas, there are established trees and a lot of variety in the landscape due to it being beautifully located in an elevated position.”

Many house hunters are searching for a new home in Cornwall as we emerge from the pandemic, and Alex can certainly see why.

“We now live in such a fantastic location. Charlestown is only a 20-minute walk from our home with Carlyon Bay only a five-minute drive away. Gwallon Keas is also right next door to Pinetum Gardens which is a great space for the whole family to enjoy. Having access to these beautiful places on the doorstep is amazing and I also like how we are not too remote whilst still enjoying the countryside views. There are plenty of shops around from the supermarkets to the local butchers and bakery. Businesses are also located on the industrial estate with other handy shops a short distance away too.”

Throughout the Kaczyńscy house buying journey, Devonshire Homes were there every step of the way to make the move as stress-free as possible. This was particularly important for Alex as the family were moving quite a distance.

“As we lived nearly six hours away, we had to do everything remotely. We even completed all of our colour choices online, but the sales team were always there to offer support. I am the kind of person who has a million questions and doubts, but the team were so patient and answered them all. Moving to a new house is always stressful but they really did offer their support, reminding us that they were always on the other end of the phone to help. We are still in the unpacking stage but I’m glad that the Marketing Suite is still on site as I know they are just around the corner if we need help with something or have any questions!”

I was pleasantly surprised that the date of completion given to us was so accurate. From the very beginning, we were told the handover should happen in June and we got our keys in mid-June. It’s the little things like that plus their excellent customer service that make them a great choice when deciding which housebuilder to purchase a new build home with.”
