Top 5 things to do in Kingsbridge

17 June 2020

South Devon is known for its shimmering coastline, patchwork fields and countryside beauty. Every year, a number of its towns welcome visitors from across the country looking to indulge in a slice of beautiful Devon. Within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you’ll discover Kingsbridge, a market town in the South Hams district. We’re delighted to be building our first new homes development in this desirable town, giving Devon house hunters the opportunity to not just visit but live in Kingsbridge. Construction work has started on Applegate Park which will offer a mix of one, two, three and four bedroom new homes in Kingsbridge. Considering one of our new properties? Let us help you with the decision. Here’s our top 5 things to do in Kingsbridge which help to showcase just some of the reasons why it’s such a terrific place to live. Please remember that some of these attractions may be temporarily closed due to Covid-19:

1. Amble along the South West Coast Path

Kingsbridge is surrounded by stunning coastline. It’s what makes this town such a popular place for visitors. Take in the beauty of the ocean by enjoying a leisurely stroll along the South West Coast Path. There are a number of walks you can experience from easy going strolls to more challenging routes for keen walkers. For something in between, give the 4.3 mile Salcombe circuit a go. A moderate walk, this route takes in the western shoreline of Salcombe Harbour and passes the romantic ruins of Fort Charles. Click here to follow the route on the South West Coast Path website.

2. Ride the miniature locomotive

Are your little ones mad about trains? If so, you have to check out the miniature locomotive which travels alongside Kingsbridge Quay. Board the “Little Train” at Ria End station to enjoy views of the estuary. The train even stops at the recreation ground! A return journey is £2 per person or £1 for a single journey. Due to Covid-19, the railway is currently closed but you can keep up-to-date with news from Kingsbridge and District Light Railway by liking its Facebook page.

3. Party in the World’s Smallest Nightclub

Kingsbridge is home to the World’s Smallest Nightclub… and it’s inside a red telephone box! When Kingsbridge Town Council adopted the traditional telephone box from BT, it wanted to create something a little different whilst raising money for charity. Step inside the nightclub complete with disco ball and flashing lights, pay £1 and use the receiver to select your song. Clubbers can dance to tunes such as Blondie’s Hanging on the Telephone with all proceeds going to Activities 115, a Kingsbridge based charity supporting adults with disabilities. If you’re looking for somewhere which offers a slightly bigger dancefloor, head to Coast on Lower Union Road, the only (full-sized!) nightclub in the South Hams!

4. Visit the South Devon Chilli Farm

If you’re a big fan of spicy food, then you need to pay a visit to the South Devon Chilli Farm. Located in the village of Loddiswell, the Farm welcomes visitors all year round. Enjoy a stroll through the display tunnel (usually open between May and November), embark on a farm tour and indulge in delicious food at the café with many of the dishes containing chillies grown and cooked on-site. You can also purchase chilli seedlings and plants from the nursery and pick up your favourite chilli products in the Farm Shop. Please note that the farm is temporarily closed due to Covid-19 but keep an eye on its website for updates.

5. Relax and unwind at The Voyage Spa

Looking for some much-needed R&R? Then Kingsbridge is the place to be. Take a trip to The Voyage Spa inside the Thurlestone Hotel and let all of your worries melt away. Just seven miles down the road from Applegate Park, The Voyage Spa features an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, laconicum, hydrotherapy pool, fitness suite and soothing therapy rooms. The Spa offers various options for day visitors including the Morning Spa voucher (from 9am-1pm with treatment and lunch) for £60 per person or the Twilight Spa voucher for £35. Visit the website for a full price list and spa brochure.

These are just some of the great things you can do in and around Kingsbridge. Our new homes will be launching at Applegate Park, off Belle Hill, very soon but in the meantime, make sure you register your interest to be the first to know when these new homes will be available to reserve.
