Leah and Tom Phillips
15 June 2016Leah Phillips and her husband Tom purchased one of the very first houses at Kilnwood, one of our new home developments located in Kingsteignton, South Devon. A small and beautiful cul-de-sac with views across Dartmoor, it didn’t take much to persuade Leah that it would be the perfect place to start a family. After spotting the development sign, Leah got in touch with us and it wasn’t long before they had put down a deposit on a lovely three-bedroom detached home.
Tom is a postman and Leah works for the Dartmoor National Park Authority. They had been living with Tom’s parents for five months before moving into their first house together last November. New home developments like Kilnwood were the perfect choice for them as they were able to take advantage of the Government’s Help to Buy Scheme, in which the buyer needs to deposit only 5% of the home’s value while the Government lends up to 20% of the cost of the new home.
Buying ‘off plan’ gave Leah time to get excited about her new home. An off plan purchase means that you agree to buy a property before it has been built and often comes with the added benefit of personalisation – you can choose many of your home’s features. Throughout construction, the building and sales teams got used to seeing Leah in safety gear, photographing her new home’s progress and sharing the pictures with her friends and family. This is all just part and parcel of the excitement that comes with buying properties on new home developments. By personalising your home, you not only end up with a brand new house but also one that is unique to you.
“It was lovely to be able to invite the family for Christmas at ‘ours’,” said Leah. “We can’t believe we’ve been in the house for six months now. Life at Kilnwood is good – it’s a very quiet estate even though there are a lot more houses finished around us now. We’ve bought a lot of furniture and are expecting our first baby, a lttle girl, due in September.”
