5 of the very best things to do in North Devon

25 July 2018

There are so many factors to consider when looking for a new home. How many bedrooms do you want? Is the new house close to a good school? Does the garden meet your needs? Perhaps one of the most important things to consider is the location. Devonshire Homes’ sites are all in beautiful locations that really do make the most of living in the countryside. With two sites in the area, Mazzard View and Ladywell Meadows, here are 5 of the very best things to do in North Devon when you begin your new life here:

Enjoy good food and real ales at The Castle Inn

This traditional pub in Landkey is definitely worth a visit if you live at or are visiting Mazzard View. With 82% of Castle Inn visitors rating the pub ‘Excellent’ on Trip Advisor, you can expect to be greeted by friendly staff and indulge in tasty dishes that have been created using the freshest local produce. Feast on succulent steak, nibble on delicious nachos or enjoy a light lunch whilst enjoying views of the beautiful North Devon countryside.

Fun for all the family at Quince Honey Farm

Quince Honey Farm just has to make our list of the best things to do. Only a 15-minute drive away from our North Devon site, Mazzard View, this family-run honey farm has been producing quality honey products since 1949 and has been delighting children and adults alike for many years. Participate in beekeeping, expert talks, candle rolling, guided tours, honey tasting and more! You’ll leave the farm with some ‘bee-utiful’ memories to cherish forever.

Meet the ‘Exmoor Beast’ at Exmoor Zoo

Home of the Exmoor Beast (a black leopard named Ebony), Exmoor Zoo is a thrilling day out for the whole family. Kids will love it here as they discover the legend behind the Exmoor Beast, sing with the Singing Dog and monkey around with a range of the zoo’s long-tailed primates. Just a short drive away from Mazzard View, your little ones can enjoy animal fun all year round at the zoo if you choose to live nearby in one of our new homes in Landkey.

Indulge in a Cream Tea at Eggesford Garden Centre

Drive six minutes down the road from our Chulmleigh site, Ladywell Meadows, and you will discover the delights of Eggesford Garden Centre. Browse around the centre where you can find colourful plants for the garden, a beautiful range of outdoor furniture and an array of gift and home products. Once you’re all shopped out, take a seat in their popular restaurant and indulge in a Cream Tea, a classic treat and one of the best things to do in North Devon!

Step into the shoes of Michael Morpurgo

Ladywell Meadows is in the perfect location for fans of Michael Morpurgo’s classic novel, War Horse. Parsonage Farm is just a 14-minute drive away and is the farm around which the book was set, along with the parish of Iddesleigh. Visitors can explore War Horse Valley from March through to September and view the stunning scenery which inspired Morpurgo with their own eyes. Wander around the exhibitions, enjoy a Devonshire Cream Tea with stunning views and round up the cows with farm dog Bright on the trailer ride.

These are only some of the best things to do in North Devon's beautiful countryside. Whilst you're in the area, make sure you come and visit our show homes at Mazzard View, Landkey, and Ladywell Meadows, Chulmleigh.
