Closer to family and open countryside: mum and son find their perfect Devon home

For this Longston Cross II customer, moving to Devon was about more than finding a new home. Keen to be closer to family while also giving her son the chance to grow up surrounded by open countryside, she knew it was time for a fresh start. When an opportunity arose at Longston Cross II in Bovey Tracey, everything began to fall into place.

Having first enquired about the development before homes were available, she had kept an eye on the development from the beginning. “I’d looked into it a while ago, but none of the homes were ready for sale at the time,” our homeowner explains. It was Sales Executive Susie who got back in touch when plots became available, and from there the customer was able to take things forward.

"What first drew me towards Devonshire Homes was the 10-year warranty, the energy efficiency, and the solar panels. These were things that I noticed other properties I viewed just didn't really come with."

The customer chose the three-bedroom detached 'Tone' house type for its bay window, attractive brick exterior, and practical layout. Inside, she has a spacious open-plan kitchen and dining area with French doors opening onto the garden, plus a separate utility room.

"It's perfect for the two of us," she says. "As soon as you walk in, you notice how light, bright and airy it is – that really stood out to me! The configuration is just right, and it always feels warm and cosy."

Beyond the four walls, it's the wider development that cemented her decision. With her son still young, the safety and family-friendly feel of Longston Cross II was high on her list. "There are swings and parks dotted around the development, and as he gets older he'll be able to use them without having to cross any main roads, so it feels really safe and secure."

The community itself has a noticeably family-oriented feel, and Bovey Tracey delivers on the practical side too: Lidl is just around the corner, the town centre is walkable, and a frequent bus to Exeter means city amenities are never far away. Plus, with a nursery place secured for her son nearby, and good schools within easy reach, the longer-term picture looks just as bright.

But it's also the natural surroundings that make all the difference for the customer. "One of the reasons I moved here was how close it is to Dartmoor. Haytor is only 10 to 15 minutes away, and the beaches are about 25 minutes. On a day off, those are exactly the kinds of things I want to be doing."

The customer noted that she found the buying process positive overall, with the Devonshire Homes team going out of their way to accommodate her situation as she wasn't yet living in Devon when making her decision.

"They'd send videos or photos if I couldn't make it to view in person, and they always got back to me really quickly. Doug, the sales manager who joined the process later, was particularly helpful and no question was ever a silly question” she recalls.

Having experienced a new build before, the customer feels the difference in quality is clear. "Compared to other new builds, Devonshire Homes feels higher end. I'd absolutely recommend them to anyone."
